Fundraising Success

Many thanks to all of you who came to support us at Castlepoint Shopping Centre on Saturday as we performed to fundraise for the DEC Philippines Typhoon Appeal. We’re delighted to announce that our 30 minute performance managed to raise £200 for the cause and a cheque will be on its way to the Appeal on Monday! We were heartened by the warm reaction of the crowd on a chilly evening and hope very much to return to Castlepoint for a repeat performance very soon.

Choir at Castlepoint for Charity!

On Saturday 23rd November at 5pm the choir will sing at Castlepoint Shopping Centre and fundraise for the DEC Philippines Typhoon Appeal. Typhoon Haiyan was 300 miles across when it struck the Philippines on the 8th of November and one of the most intense tropical storms to ever make landfall anywhere in the world. It brought torrential rain, sustained winds of over 195mph and a storm surge of up to 30 feet that devastated coastal areas.

There are millions of people who have been affected, including hundreds of thousands who have been forced from their homes. There are countless dead. Those who have survived now need urgent help including emergency shelter, clean water and food.

Please join us at Castlepoint, listen to some great music and donate to a worthy cause

This afternoon the Choir paid tribute at the funeral of our dear friend, Jim McAllister, who died last week just a few weeks away from his 90th birthday.

Having joined the choir 29 years ago, Jim was the longest serving member of the Choir. He played a key role in authoring our current constitution, served as Treasurer and became a Life Vice President of the Choir.

We are deeply indebted to Jim for all that he contributed to the choir, enabling us to become what we are today.

He was a true gentleman, respected and held in deep affection by all.

We will always remember his warmth, humour, generosity and deep humility.

‘Tis the Season!

‘Tis the Season!

The leaves are changing colour, the days getting shorter and restaurants are imploring us to make our festive reservations which can only mean one thing … BMVC’s busiest period of the year is upon us!

Our 13-14 season began in September, with a concert at Bournemouth’s School for Girls in aid of the Bournemouth Society for the Visually Impaired and Diverse Abilities Plus, raising almost £900.

We were then invited to perform at the benediction for the recently re-opened Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart in the town centre. The church stonework had been thoroughly cleaned following their successful Shine Appeal which the Choir had supported by a performance in December 2012. We really enjoy performing in this wonderful venue and were privileged to play a role in this significant event. We hope to continue our collaboration with this Church with future performances in the future.

And, with echoes of our hectic 90th anniversary schedule last year, we are now set for 14 performances between now and Christmas! This begins on Saturday with a performance in Northampton as guests of the Northampton Male Voice Choir. We hear all 500 seats have been sold out and we’re really looking forward to our weekend with our supporters and new friends in the East Midlands!

Autumn then brings a range of commemorative events, private functions, an open air performance and concerts for local community groups and charities. All the details are available on our concerts page.

We’re really pleased that a lot of these engagements are rebookings based on our performances last year and are testament to the warm receptions we received and the partnerships we’ve been developing. If you would like to talk to us about a future booking, please contact us via this website.

Of course, we are always keen to hear from new singers, so if you’d like to join us on our exciting journey, please have a look at further details and get in touch!

Turning Japanese

Turning Japanese

Unlike the 1980’s one hit wonder The Vapours we aren’t singing pop songs about Japan but actually started learning a new item this week that is in Japanese!

“Furasato” was given to us by our friends in the Chor Leoni Men’s Choir from Vancouver and the choir pretty much cracked it at sight. That, combined with a successful read through “MLK” by U2 and welcoming two new members to the choir all went together to make a fairly successful start to the 2013/2014 season.

Our first gig is at Bournemouth School for Girls on 21st September and that kicks off a packed seasons music making. Why not say hello at one of those gigs or by leaving us a message on our Facebook page
