Eight weeks over – the future starts here!

We had a fabulous evening with Warrington Male Voice Choir and the guys who were on  our Learn2Sing course on Saturday.  The Concert was very well received with some amazing feedback.  The success was framed very excellently and kindly by one of the audience who left this on our Facebook page.

“Happy to say I was there last night with my husband and a girl friend, and all three of us LOVED the performances. WMVC were hugely impressive as expected, and L2S should be very proud – it takes real courage to perform to an audience (especially one including 2 established choirs!) after such a short time singing together and they did very well indeed. But for me, and my companions, it was BMVC who were the undisputed stars of the show. Their tone, presentation, vivacity and range were all fantastic. I hadn’t heard them before, but would happily pay to hear them again in the future. Well done gentlemen, and thanks for a magical evening!”

What more could we ask for?

Moving forward, a large group of the L2S course members will attend their first Bournemouth Male Voice Choir rehearsal this Tuesday – the adventure continues for us and begins anew for them.

D-Day for Learn2Sing!

Following their intensive 8 week course, our Learn2Sing singers will be making their debut alongside BMVC and guests, Warrington Male Voice Choir at St Ambrose in Westbourne on Saturday 15th March at 7.30pm.

The response to the LearnToSing initiative has been phenomenal, with over 30 local men attending the sessions with our Musical Director, Mark Burstow.

The guys have made impressive progress in a short amount of time and it will be an honour for the choir to perform with them. We look forward to meeting their friends and family who have supported them throughout.

We will all be in illustrious company, as we will be joined by Warrington Male Voice Choir, a highly acclaimed chorus who we are delighted to welcome to Bournemouth on tour. We performed previously in March 2012 at the ‘Battle of the Male Choirs’ in Torquay with Warrington, where they emerged as worthy winners.

It promises to be a fabulous evening of choral performances in one of our favourite local venues. Proceeds from the concert will be provided to St Ambrose’s organ restoration fund.

There are only a limited number of tickets available, all priced at £5.

To guarantee your place, please purchase your ticket in advance by calling the box office (01202 256420) or emailing concerts@bournemouthmalechoir.co.uk.Any remaining tickets will be available for sale on the door on the night.

Live on Radio Solent – eight singers with insomnia!

We took a group of eight singers (otherwise known as an Octet or a VLQ) to BBC Radio Solent to Talk to Julian Clegg about the work of Bournemouth Male Voice Choir and in particular the Learn2Sing Course that begins on 14th January 2014 – http://www.bournemouthmalechoir.co.uk/learn2sing/

We met at 7am – so much warming up was needed, some felt that their efforts deserved a hearty breakfast afterwards and were last seen demolishing bacon and eggs.  Others went off to work……. 🙁

Have a listen to the interview and come along and join in!

Great experiences, new venues, new friends

Great experiences, new venues, new friends

IMG_0321Being a member of Bournemouth Male Voice Choir is full of powerful experiences and lots of positive emotions.

Yesterday we met at central Bournemouth and took a coach off into the depths of Dorset to give a Concert at Tyneham Church.  It was an amazing evening – the church absolutely stuffed to capacity the choir uber-vibrant and full of good music. An historic event 70 years on (to the week) from the evacuation of Tyneham and the occasion, the poetry and music stirred up many differing feelings;  laughter, poignancy and nostalgia chief amongst them.   A privilege to take part in the event – thanks to Lt Col Ken Davies for his perfect organisation of the event – the phrase military precision comes to mind!

There being no rest for the wicked, we got in around midnight and met again at 11.15 at St. Mark’s Parish Church, Talbot Woods. for a quick rehearsal IMG_0787and then singing at the wedding of Carly and Dafydd.  The happy couple selected some Elton John, a bit of  Take That and a spot of Elvis Costello today – we are nothing if not diverse and stepping outside our comfort zone into this repertoire is good for our music making!  Such a privilege to take part in the first step on this young couples married lives.

Then on Monday the Chairman and the Musical Director will be speaking with Julian Clegg on his BBC Radio Solent programme. They will be talking about #Learn2Sing.  The MD has press-ganged twelve singers from the choir to join him in the studio for two live Christmas Carol performances too.  We are live at about 7.30 am and again at at about 8:30.

As one of the choir wives said on Friday, you get some great opportunities as a member of Bournemouth Male Voice Choir – do you or one of your friends fancy coming on board?
